Theatre & Creative Arts Camp

A two-week opportunity for students in grades 6 - 9 to fuel their creativity in theatre arts, screen writing, visual arts and graphic design. Featuring Prout's Visual & Performing Arts faculty members. 

July 22 - August 2

Camp will conclude with a performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jr. 
on Friday, August 2nd at 7pm.

Camp fees: $325 per week (brown bag lunch)

Our Directors

Michael Elson, Chair of our Visual & Performing Arts Department, is a state-certified visual arts teacher who has been teaching at Prout since 1998. He has a BA in Graphic Design and a BS in Art Education from from Rhode Island College. Mr. Elson has taught up to eight different visual arts classes during his time at Prout. Currently, he teaches AP Studio Art (Drawing and 2-D portfolio), Visual Arts I and II, and Graphic Design. He is a certified International Baccalaureate Art teacher. Besides directing both a winter and spring art show, Mr. Elson is also the moderator of the Art Club. He is a member of both the RIAEA and NAEA. Mr. Elson is a practicing visual artist and freelance graphic designer who attends arts education conferences and takes graduate-level courses and workshops to stay current and enrich the work he does inside and outside the school.

Vivian K. Humphrey, Prout's Theatre Director, has worked in youth and children’s theatre for over 30 years. She founded two theatre companies in Virginia as well as the Triboro Youth Theatre in Attleboro, MA.  In addition, Mrs. Humphrey has operated summer camps for middle school students for 20 plus years. 

Mrs. Humphrey earned her BFA degree in Drama with a concentration in Directing and a sub-concentration in Art from The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.

At Prout, Mrs. Humphrey teaches Technical Theatre, Foundations of Theatre, Musical Theatre I & II and Honors Acting. Mrs. Humphrey stages three productions each year at the school, including: Beauty and the Beast, Bye Bye Birdie, Curtains, Honk!, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Lucky Stiff, Once on This Island, Peter & the Starcatcher, Seussical the Musical, South Pacific and Twelfth Night.

Kristen Rich, Prout's Ceramic Art teacher, has a BA in Art Studio from  URI and a BS in Art Education from RIC. She maintains a RI Teaching  Certification in Art Education. She has been a Visual Arts teacher at The  Prout School since 2011, though she also has experience teaching at the  elementary and middle school level. At Prout, Mrs. Rich teaches Visual  Art I and II, Ceramics, and IB Art. Her personal interest is in ceramics,  and she is a current member of the South County Art Association, the RI Art Education Association, and the National Art Education Association.
