In this course students will develop an understanding and appreciation of life. They will learn what biology is and where it is used. Students will learn how to apply the scientific method to everyday life. They will learn laboratory measurements, tools, and techniques. Students will learn the anatomical structures of living organisms from the chemical level through the system level. They will investigate the physiology of these structures through a variety of sources. Students will examine genetics and its influence on organisms. Students will learn how organisms maintain homeostasis and be provided with examples of homeostatic imbalances. Students will gain an understanding of the symbiotic relationships among organisms. Finally, students will learn how organisms came into existence, their differences, and their classification.
