Grade 11 & 12, 1 credit (college credit course)
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Religion 10
Texts: The Illustrated World's Religions: A Guide to Our Wisdom Traditions by Huston Smith.
The IB World Religions course is a two year systematic, critical, yet sympathetic study of the variety of beliefs and practices encountered in the main religions of the world, with the aim of enhancing international and inter-religious understanding. By drawing on historical, geographical and sociological elements the course also seeks to promote an awareness of some of the religious issues in the contemporary world.
In the context of the International Baccalaureate, it is most appropriate to study a number of religions in a scholarly, open-minded and objective way with no suggestion of indoctrination or persuasion. Major religions studied include Hinduism, Taoism, Confucianism, Sikhism, Shintoism, Judaism, Islam and Christianity.
