How long have you been teaching at Prout?
I have been teaching at The Prout School for 9 years. I came to the school in 1998 after teaching in Annapolis, Maryland for two years.
What grades do you teach? Courses?
I teach college Preparatory Biology and Honors Anatomy & Physiology. Primarily freshman are enrolled in these courses but there are also several upperclassmen enrolled in the honors course.
What is your favorite thing about the Prout community and the students here?
I like the student’s willingness and drive to learn. In addition to this, it is also nice to be able to talk about religion. God exists in life and when talking about biology you can’t help but wonder how life complex without there being a God.
Are you involved in any other extra curricular activities at the school?
When I first came to The Prout School in 1998 the school included a junior high. At that time, I coached the Jr. High Girls’ Soccer Team. However, after the closing of the Junior High, I began coaching the Girls’ Junior Varsity Soccer Team. In the Fall of 2006 my team was quite successful winning the Division II JV Title. In addition to girls’ soccer I also began coaching the Girls’ Outdoor Track Team in 2005.
What kind of technology does your classroom have?
The school just recently completed an addition which provided the science department with eight new classrooms. In my classroom I utilize one of the new smartboards which I use in my lectures for power point presentations, animation clips to demonstrate biological processes and internet research. My lab also possesses computer probes which provide an accurate measurement for reading Ph and the salinity of solutions. I also use a microscope camera to project onto the smart board. This allows students the opportunity to view the specimens as they should be seeing in their microscope.
