From the Principal
The Prout School is always on the move, always changing, yet it also strives to not stop delivering what people have come to expect from Prout, a superior Catholic education that serves the educational and spiritual needs of our students and Prout community. I ask that you consider that there is a lot attached to that word, “educational.” By “educational” I do not simply mean academic, although that is decidedly an important part of who we are and what we do. Certainly, if we did not provide excellent academics we would no longer attract the number of students who apply to Prout each year.
I further ask you to consider that there is much more involved in the educational package then perhaps there used to be. From my perspective of forty plus years in Catholic and public education I can say that there was a time when sports, for example, were looked upon as something that added value to a school’s program but, with some rare and famous exceptions, was not intrinsically a part of that program. That is decidedly no longer the case. Parents and students today (and it is often the students who select the schools they attend) are increasingly interested in the entire package, and that is how it should be. Sports, music, theater, the arts, the religious and campus ministry programs, and the academic offerings are all seen as integral parts of a school’s offerings. Individual students may have more regard for an individual piece of that package, but it is the program as a whole that comes under scrutiny and that must stand up to the test of suitability. Is this the school for my child? Is this the school for me?
We, at Prout, think the answer for many people is “Absolutely, yes!” and we are proud of our record in attracting young men and women to join our ranks each year. We know, however, that the review is a yearly one. We must “pass muster” on an ongoing basis if we are to fulfill our mission as a Catholic school. Prout does not exist merely to sustain itself; we strive to educate students to know and understand their faith and to serve others. That is who we are and it is to advance that mission that we ask all our alumni and Prout community to share in our pride and to assist us in our mission as we continue our journey of discovery, innovation, and preservation.
