225 AP English 12
Grade 12, 1 credit
Prerequisite: Maintaining of a 90 or higher in either IB or English 11 Honors.
This reading and writing intensive class is for serious students of literature who will complete the same types of assignments found at the college level. Works in all genres from various periods will make up the readings. This course will also include a survey of various approaches to literary criticism and theory (existentialism, postmodernism, cultural studies, etc.) students will most likely encounter in college. Students will engage in a wide variety of learning activates, including group projects, media presentations, and other creative endeavors. Writing response, thesis, and research papers will be commonplace in this course. Students are also required to give oral presentations and lead class discussions. All students enrolled in this class are required to take the externally assessed AP English Literature and Composition test in May. All AP seniors complete a unit on the research process, which culminates in their writing a twenty to twenty five page analytical paper.
