Class of 2010
Where do you volunteer?
I volunteer at a summer camp for children with special needs called Looking Upwards Summer Fun Days, located in Middletown.
Why do you volunteer with that organization?
I volunteer there because the children are so kind and innocent, you can't help but love them.
What kind of responsibilities/jobs do you have?
The responsibilities I have are to help a counselor with a child if the counselor needs to attend to another issue or do something else. I also help with some of the camp activities such as horseback riding and the arts and crafts.
How does volunteering make you feel?
Volunteering makes me feel wonderful because I actually feel like my work is appreciated, even if I only do a little thing.
Why and how did you begin volunteering?
When my brother was young, he went to the camp and loved it. I just had to get involved!
How has The Prout School impacted or effected your perception of community service?
The Prout School has impacted my view of community service because they show that not only are you helping out someone in need, but it also makes you feel helpful and good about yourself.
What does The Prout School do to assist your community service efforts?
The Prout School helps us with our community service by providing us with many volunteering opportunities through the morning announcements and school community also works together at various times of the year on a collaborative effort. This year, throughout the month of December the school worked with on The Heifer Project. Together, we collected money to buy an animal for a family that lives in a poverty stricken country. The Prout School gathered a great deal of money that allowed us to not only buy a cow for a family, but also a goat and chicken for the family!
