Language & Learning Center
After much anticipation, The Prout School is happy to announce to the community that their new multi-media language and learning center is now ready for classroom use. Principal, Gary Delneo states, “The new language and learning lab offers exciting opportunities for faculty in different departments to engage students in independent projects while still in a group setting. As we move forward, it will also open a door to independent study in non-traditional languages and other areas of learning not currently available to our students.”
The new center is the result of a $97,000 grant received from the Champlin Foundation in the fall. After only a short period of use in the lab, faculty members are already beginning to see the opportunities that it will provide them with. Language teacher, Mrs. Joanne Welsh states, “Now we are able to record conversations and dialogues simultaneously, allowing us to progress at a more efficient pace.” Before this technology became available, language department classroom time was spent listening to students present oral exams. Now, however, the entire class can record their material simultaneously, providing the teacher with the opportunity to listen to the students in their down time and work on new material with students during their class.
The new learning center is just one of the many steps that The Prout School has taken to provide its students with the latest tools and resources to enhance their educational experience. This award represents the school’s second Champlin Grant award. The first grant was awarded in the fall of 2005 for interactive whiteboards and related hardware for use in the science department.
