This is a pre-sail check list that I use when going sailing. You can use as much of as little of it as you feel you want to except for the mandatory stuff: Dry suit, Boots and PFD. The rest of it I can guarantee you I have used them time and time again.
Humans:
1. Dry suit
2. PFD
3. Boots
4. Warm socks
5. Gloves
6. Wooly hat
7. Sun (or regular) glasses
8. Water bottles
9. Towel and warm dry clothes for post sailing
10. Lip balm
11. Sun screen
12. Watch
13. Roll of electrical tape-for taping up for instance the ring dings
14. Grease pencil
15. Wet notes book
16. Knife or multi tool
17. Couple of 24 inch long bits of 3/16” light line (in dry suit pocket)
18. Black yarn- put on rigging for tell tales
19. Hair bands
Boat:
1. Bailer
2. Sponge
3. All strings OK to use: no chafe
4. Hiking straps secure- It is embarrassing to roll out of a great tack on someone’s lee bow and fall in the tide
5. Rudder fittings all OK
6. Tell tales on the sails (tape some yarn onto the sails if not-starboard side higher than port)
7. Bungs in
8. Bailers working
9. Bottom OK
10. Hiking stick secure to the tiller
11. Ring dings secure/tapped up
12. Tiller secure into the head of the rudder
