My Crusader

Mr. Elson

Visual Arts Teacher

How long have you been teaching at The Prout School?  What classes do you teach?
I have been teaching at The Prout School for 12 years.  I presently teach Introduction to Art, Drawing, Painting, Graphic Design, and AP Studio Art (2D and Drawing Portfolio)

Who is your favorite artist?
I have more than one artist as a “favorite” Much like songs on your “IPOD”, sometimes you are inspired by something in your everyday life and have a memory of the first time you saw/heard a composition which came close to representing it.  Here are some artists from my own “playlists” Sheeler, Diebenkorn, Thiebaud, Muñoz, Moore, Seurat’s Drawings, Munch, Hofmann, Spilliaert, Carr, Kline, Dove, O’Keefe, Pinardi, Russell, Perrino.

Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes from interesting form exposed through enigmatic light.

What do you enjoy most about The Prout School and the student body?
I enjoy Prout’s overall positive spirit, and it’s students desire to learn.

Do you have any new and exciting projects planned for your classes this year?
Some projects, which are currently in the works, are a combined field tip with Mr. Mulligan’s T.O.K. class, collaboration with Mrs. Greco, and possibly one with the religion department this year.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Hobbies?
When I am not at Prout, I love being a Dad (my daughter Lily is 15 months old).  I also enjoy creating both 2d and 3d artworks.  Primarily in the media of pen, paint (mostly acrylic these days..), clay, and assemblage (crazy inventions for Lily)
