What sports do you play? When did you begin playing each sport?
I play varsity volleyball, basketball, and softball, but I actually love all sports. I played soccer my freshman year, which I had previously been playing since I was about 4 years old. My sophomore year I switched to volleyball. It was a new challenge and the first time I had ever played that sport. I have played both basketball and softball since I was about 4 or 5 years old, thanks to having older siblings who played sports.
Which sport are you the most passionate about? Why?
It is very hard for me to choose the one sport that I love the most. I truly enjoy playing them all equally. I do not know what I would do if I was not involved in athletics. Sports have become a part of my life. Each one brings something different to challenge me. I love the adrenaline rush as I step onto a field or court. I love the competition, and most of all, I cherish playing with teammates who have become my friends.
How do you manage your academic workload with your demanding athletic schedule?
It definitely does get very tough trying to manage practices, games and schoolwork. Many times, I have to stay up late to study or finish an essay or project. I often do homework in between the end of the school day and the start of a practice or a game. I know that this is the price I must pay for playing a sport and doing what I love. I would not change it for anything. I also know that my academic work must always come first, and I have had to learn to manage my time and set my priorities. It's why my parents sent me to Prout. I do get overwhelmed at times, much like any teenager, but I do my best to get it done because I know that if I do not get good grades, I won't be able to play sports.
What has been your most memorable team moment since attending The Prout School?
My most memorable team moment would have to be winning the Division 1 state championship in volleyball. It was our first season in D1 and we went undefeated. It was such a great accomplishment, and such a tribute to how hard we had worked throughout that entire season. We did it as a team, and it was also lots of fun.
What does being a member of a Prout Athletic team mean to you?
I am proud to wear the Prout athletic sweatshirts and jackets. It means that I am part of a successful athletic department. Most of our teams are always in contention for championships. It also means I represent a school with a strong academic, spiritual, artistic and athletic foundation.
Who is your favorite professional athlete? Why?
I admire the qualities of several professional athletes. I like the skill of shortstop Nomar Garciaparra. I enjoyed watching Lisa Leslie pave the way for women's basketball players with her leadership. Misty May amazes me with her talent on the volleyball court. I listened to the advice from Michael Jordan about the importance of practice, and I appreciate the humbleness of Red Sox player Mike Lowell.
