Adriana Morales-Wright
Foreign Language Teacher
How long have you been teaching at The Prout School? What classes do you teach?
I began teaching at The Prout School in 1996 but I left in April of 1999 to take care of my newborn son, Xavier. I was fortunate that in 2002 my position became available once again and I was able to return to Prout.
I currently teach a total of five classes which are comprised of sophomores and juniors: Spanish 4 IB, Spanish 4 H, Spanish 4 CP, and Spanish 2H.
How do you get students excited about learning a new language?
Being able to teach something that I am passionate about is critical. Students are able to witness firsthand my passion for the Spanish language and it becomes contagious. I have always felt and still do feel that I was born to be a teacher and I love reaching out to the students.
I also try to make the classes for fun and hands on for students. For example, I have tried doing skits with the students and having the student create their own videos in Spanish. I also feel that it is important for the students to learn about the Spanish culture – from the food to the music and movies.
What do you enjoy most about teaching at The Prout School and the students here?
I love how the school feels like a small community. With the smaller class sizes you are really given the opportunity to get to know your students more and it has been a pleasure being able to watch the students grow and develop as they move through high school. The faculty at Prout also make my job very rewarding – everyone from all of the departments works together for the good of the school and the students here.
Are you involved in any other extracurricular activities at the school?
I am a moderator of the Spanish Club which meets after school and teaches the students about the Spanish culture. We have held Zumba classes, Salsa Classes, cooked food, held bake sales, watched movies and this winter we are planning a trip to NY to see a Spanish play.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love spending time with my husband and two children, Xavier and Brielle. I also enjoy exercising, taking a Zumba class, listening to music, reading, and shopping for shoes.
