"Each one of us has some kind of vocation. We are called by God to share in His life and in His Kingdom. Each one of us is called to a special place in the Kingdom. If we find that place we will be happy. If we do not find it, we can never be completely happy. For each one of us, there is only one thing necessary: to fulfill our own destiny, according to God's will, to be what God wants us to be."
Thomas Merton, "No Man is an Island"
The Religious Studies Department at Prout seeks to introduce students to the richness of their own spirituality, to lead them to know the God who loves them, and to find and worship God within the Christian faith, both through prayer and service.
Students are led to an understanding of Jesus, the gospel message and the teaching of the Catholic Church. They are empowered to understand the image of the Church as the People of God, brought together in common faith, public worship and moral vision. Through their study of the scriptures, church history, doctrine, the sacraments, liturgy, human interaction, and world religions, they learn that to be holy is to be fully human, a citizen of the secular world empowered by the gospel to build the Kingdom. The department seeks to help students find themselves and God through study, reflection, prayer, retreat, service and community.
An integral part of each year’s course is the Christian Service aspect. Each student at Prout is required to complete Christian Service hours in order to complete his or her Religious Studies requirement for each year. The choosing, tracking, and reflection for these projects will be a part of their religion credit, and will be certified by their religion teacher.
