Michael Traficante , Director of Athletics

Michael Traficante, now in his second full year as Director of Athletics, previously served as the Director of Athletics for the Cranston Public School System from 2001 – 2012. He was responsible for the athletic programs at both Cranston High School East and Cranston High School West which involved 84 athletic teams over 85 coaches and 1,400 athletes.
Mike has been an active member of the Rhode Island Interscholastic Athletic Administrator’s Association (RIIAAA) since 2001. He has served as their recording secretary, vice president, president-elect and in July of 2012 completed his two year term as President of the RIIAAA.
He is currently serving his second two year term as a voting member of the Principal’s Committee on Athletics. He is also the Chairman of the RIIL Hall of Fame Committee, an Executive Board member of the RII Injury Fund, Co-Director of Softball and a member of the boys’ soccer committee.
Mike attained his CAA status (Certified Athletic Administrator) in 2008, was recognized as the 2005 Rhode Island Athletic Director of the Year and in 2010 received the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrator’s State Award of Merit.
Athletic Philosophy
The goal of athletics at The Prout School is to lead young men and women to the realization that true growth and fulfillment are achieved in the struggle for success. The development of self-discipline and dedication, both mental and physical, and the ideal of serving others, especially one’s teammates, are the themes emphasized in the growth to maturity. It is The Prout School’s belief that athletic competition is both a tremendous source of enjoyment and recreation, as well as an excellent way to reach young people and help them prosper.
